A "Civilized Park"

Civilized Matchmaking

We recently visited the Shanghai Civilised Park (though I think the translation should have been "People's Park"). Like most of the downtown "parks" it is more of a city garden but is particularly renowned as the place for parents to publicise their son or daughter's credentials to other parents seeking a suitable spouse for their child. Boards with pictures and vital characteristics of potential brides and grooms littered the foliage beds. Ladies with clipboards seemed to be the organisers of the matchmaking and discussions were happening amongst earnest groups of parents about children whose ages seemed to be generally late 20s. I hope that the young people who were potential beneficiaries of their parents' matchmaking efforts supported such a "civilized" system.

Haha, so you did visit this

Haha, so you did visit this interesting "civilized" event of Shanghai!

Actually, the sign "Shanghai Civilized Park" is a kind of rating for parks in Shanghai. When a certain park achieves certain criteria, they will be awarded a sign of "Shanghai Civilized Park". So actually there are quite a few "Civilized Parks" within Shanghai. And this one you went to, is really "The People's Park"=)
