Social Venture winners tackle chronic disease

The winners of the Social Entrepreneurship Business Competition at Friday's national final for MBA students was a team from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) called "BiBang". Their business plan is to launch an online platform dedicated to helping people better manage their health, particularly those who require regular and chronic monitoring of their health status. Diabetes, for example, is a growing problem in China and the online platform linked to SMS services prompts patients to measure their blood pressure, record the data via SMS which is then "recognised" and compared with the patients's personal records. BiBang can generate a health report for a user based on submitted health data. The financing of the business relies on the sale of anonymised patient health data to pharmaceutical companies and medical device companies.

Close runners up were a team from Tsinghua University with the "Orchid & Day-Lily Love Plan" devoted to "improving the quality of the aged nursing service in China."
